MetaMask Plans USD Stablecoin Launch with Stripe Partnership
MetaMask, the leading non-custodial wallet in Web3, is poised to enter the stablecoin arena with "MetaMask USD" (mmUSD). A governance proposal reveals plans to partner with Stripe for regulatory-compliant issuance, leveraging the M⁰ network for decentralized settlement. The MOVE targets the dominance of USDC and USDT.
With over 30 million monthly active users, MetaMask aims to integrate mmUSD as a base currency across its ecosystem. The stablecoin WOULD facilitate DeFi interactions on platforms like Aave, complementing recent card launches with Mastercard and Baanx.
Industry observers note the timing aligns with regulatory clarity from the GENIUS Act. Neither company has confirmed details about reserve models, leaving questions about compliance frameworks unanswered. The original proposal has since been made private.
